Mercanta is a dedicated sourcing and importing company with offices in Kingston upon Thames (UK) and Guatemala City and was founded in 1996 by Stephen Hurst, who was joined in 1997 by business partner Flori Marin. Unlike most coffee importers in Europe, Mercanta The Coffee Hunters was established uniquely to supply fine coffees to Specialty Coffee roasters. The company is highly focused on quality, variety, provenance and relationships with the growers and employs a dedicated team of some of the world's best coffee cuppers (tasters).
A sister company - the London School of Coffee - offers training in cupping, barista skills and other areas. Mercanta now supplies fine green coffees to Specialty Coffee roasters in 25 countries worldwide from substantial inventories of over 100 different coffees at warehouse facilities in Bury St Edmunds (UK) and Portland, Oregon (USA).
